Seasonal Energy Flow Yoga

The Seasonal Yoga programme combines the practice of hatha yoga (asana practice, pranayama, meditations and yoga nidra) with traditional Eastern views of the body and it's energy systems.

“Nothing in the natural world exists in isolation.
We can clearly see this in the opposites of day/night, light/dark, cold/hot, wet/dry, expansion/contraction, movement/stillness and even summer and winter.
Balanced energy flowing through the body equates to improved health. When the body is in a state of dynamic coherent energy, there is less possibility for disease.”

“Energy in Season, Five Keys to Vitality”
Susan Woodd & Julie Hanson

Energy ~ Prana ~ Life Force
Energy or life force, called prana in yoga, (or chi in Chinese, ki in Japanese and and lom in Thai traditions), is present in all things. It is an unseen force that moves throughout creation, through our bodies, our homes, the landscape and throughout the entire universe. Invisible and dynamic it can be felt and is recognised indirectly by what it fosters, generates and protects: it acts as your own personal battery.

Nadis ~ Meridians ~ Sen Lines
Channels or pathways, called nadis in yoga, (meridians in Chinese and Sen lines in Thai traditions), create a network within our energy bodies through which prana flows, nourishing the body’s organs, glands and their related systems. Yoga asanas, pranayama (breathwork) and mental focus help assist the smooth flow of energy through these channels (stiffness and discomfort or pain may be a sign of a blockage) and yoga practice works to help rebalance our energies. Some channels act as reservoirs of energy, while others conduct energy to and from an associated organ. Each organ also has a time of year when it resonates with the particular energy of that season. At different times of the year, therefore, individual organs and their energy paths require more focus to re-charge them and support the energy homoeostasis of the entire body. This helps correct any deficiencies or imbalances that may be there, thereby activating the body’s own healing responses.
